About Project Brays
On February 12, 2019, Commissioners Court authorized negotiations with an engineering firm for design of the Almeda Road bridge replacement project.
On November 13, 2018, Harris County Commissioners Court authorized bidding for a construction contract for channel modifications and bridge replacement at Greenbriar Drive over Brays Bayou.
August 28, 2018, Commissioners Court awarded a $6,625,343 construction contract to James Construction Group Ltd. for a project to replace the Buffalo Speedway bridge. On August 14, 2018, Commissioners Court awarded a $7,889,508 construction contract to James Construction Group Ltd. for a project to extend the Stella Link bridge and replace the Ardmore Street bridge. Construction on these three bridges has been temporarily suspended.
On August 28, 2018, Commissioners Court also approved a $790,000 contract for design, bidding and construction phase services for replacement of the bridges at S. Rice Avenue and Chimney Rock Road. Design for that project began in September.
Construction began in late July 2018 on a project to modify Brays Bayou from upstream of South Rice Avenue to upstream of Fondren Road, including a section on the northern bank from South Post Oak Road/Loop 610 to South Rice Avenue. Commissioners Court awarded a $11,719,935 construction contract to Serco Construction Group Ltd. for this project, which is expected to take about one year.
Construction also began in late July 2018 on a project to replace the Forest Hill Boulevard bridge over Brays Bayou. Commissioners Court awarded a $4,983,497 construction contract to Harper Brothers Construction for this project, which is also expected to take about one year.
On June 12, 2018 Commissioners Court approved an agreement with the City of Houston that would expedite funding for other Brays Bayou bridge projects. This agreement also has been approved by the Houston City Council.
A project to replace bridges at Telephone Road, Lawndale Street and South 75th Street is in design.
